Dermal Filler
Description: To improve facial appearance by plumping up fine lines, wrinkles, depressions in the skin caused by acne or other scarring and augmenting the lips by restoring volume and definition. Such plumping, filling, or augmenting tissue can reverse some features of facial ageing. There are a huge range of different types of filler materials. Categories include: temporary or resorbable fillers; permanent fillers; autologous or 'natural' fillers.
Potential Risk of Negligence: Temporary fillers are well tolerated and rarely cause allergic reaction from the tissues. The effects are temporary and last for 2-6 months. Permanent fillers may cause allergic and inflammatory reactions with redness, swelling, pain and lumpiness. Over time the injected material may shift and move. Any foreign material may be prone to infection, which may produce inflamed lumps and abscesses. Autologous refers to tissues derived from your own body, such as fat. Unfortunately this can be absorbed by the body over time, and long term results are different to ascertain.
After treatment with any filler, some redness and swelling can occur, this usually subsides within a day or two.
