Eyelid Surgery
Description: To remove skin and fat tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids to remove drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes.
Potential Risk of Negligence: All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk, surgery around the eyes is not simple and straight forward. A detailed, thorough and expert assessment of the problem, and a carefully chosen and executed procedure is necessary for s successful natural result. The presence of certain eye and other conditions may mean surgery is unsuitable for you, and an Ophthalmology assessment will be needed before surgery. There are general risks associated with surgery. A haematoma, collection of blood, can collect under the skin after the surgery and usually disperses spontaneously over 2 to 3 weeks. Occasionally it may need draining if it is quite large. Swelling will cause the corner of the eye to pull away from the eye during the first few days after surgery. This will usually settle on its own or may require the help of sutures or steri-strips. Very occasionally further surgery is required. Tiny white cysts can occur along the suture line, which can be picked out with a needle and are nothing to be concerned about. Temporary blurred vision, infection, dry eyes, watery eyes and bruising can occur and can last a few weeks. Scars will remain pink for a few months but will eventually become almost invisible. Eyes can end up asymmetrical and in exceptionally rare cases blindness can occur.
