Nose Reshaping
Description: To reshape the nose or relieve blockages in the nostrils. A 'nose job' can either reduce the size of the nose: Reduction Rhinoplasty or build up the shape of the nose: Augmentation Rhinoplasty.
Potential Risk of Negligence: There are general risks associated with surgery under a general anaesthetic including a small risk of chest infection, particularly in people who smoke. There is a risk that an infection could complicate the success of the operation. Occasionally the operation is complicated by heavy nose bleeding, either shortly after or a week to ten days later which may require treatment in hospital. It is quite common to have some difficulty with breathing through the nose during the first week after surgery, due to swelling, which usually settles as the swelling settles. In some 10% of cases the biggest problem is dissatisfaction and a second operation may be performed, but it is most important to wait for all the swelling to settle from the fist operation. Most surgeons wait up to a year before correcting contour irregularities or asymmetries. In operations to build up the nose implants may become infected or extrude through the nose and in such cases the implants may need to be removed.
