Vaginal Tightening Surgery
Description: To tighten vaginal muscles and supporting tissue, where the vagina has become lax following childbirth, or with age. The procedure may be a simple one which involves suturing at the vaginal opening, or may involve excising excess vaginal mucosa together with tightening the muscles of the vagina.
Potential Risk of Negligence: There are general risks associated with surgery and a general anaesthetic including a small risk of chest infection particularly if you smoke, and also a small risk of thrombosis in the leg veins, and also the lungs particularly if you are taking the contraceptive pill. You will feel sore and swollen after surgery and will feel discomfort for a few days. You should be able to return to work after about a week. If the vagina is over tightened it may lead to urine retention. A very rare but serious complication is perforation of the bowel.
